Our Flood Cleanup Protocol

Water damage from a leaking roof, a burst pipe, or an overflowing tub can cause a considerable amount of damage to your home in a very short period of time. After you experience water damage, there is a small window of time in which you need to begin to clean up to minimize the damage and to avoid mold growth. Because of this, you may need to begin the clean-up process before your insurance adjuster arrives to assess the damage.

We maintain solid working relationships with all major insurance companies and their adjusters so we can assist property owners throughout the entire claims process without delay.

Our Flood Cleanup Service includes:

  • Assessing the damage
  • Handling the insurance claims
  • Repairing the damage
  • Restoring your home for you to enjoy!

Water Damage and Carpeting!

Water damage to carpets is very common and a problem that causes a whole lot of grief. Unfortunately, there's no standardized procedure for dealing with this pesky situation. However, there are steps you can take to minimize how much permanent damage is done. The key of course is to reach out to a professional water damage restoration company. But before we go that far, let's first look at some other considerations.

To Replace Or Not To Replace

It’s tempting to just give up and simply replace your carpet. However, this isn’t always necessary. Carpeting can often be salvaged, but you need to make sure you do the following immediately:

  • Turn off the water supply in your home.
  • Avoid walking on the carpet.
  • Remove any and all furniture and furnishings
  • Begin the process of water extraction and removal as quickly as possible.

A blue air conditioner and a blue fan are sitting next to each other on the floor.
A man is laying carpet on the floor in a room.
A person wearing socks is walking on a wet carpet.

Professionals usually need two to three hours to get out to your location, but there is plenty you can do in the meantime to get the process rolling.

Ideally, you should separate the carpet from the attached tack strip. Discard the padding, raise the carpet and use fans or any other methods to expedite the drying process. The last requirement is really important. Carpet padding soaks up moisture like a sponge. It must be discarded, no matter what!

Dab dry towels on the carpet to help soak up more moisture. Take it outside if it’s not glued down. This is especially useful in summer.

Structural Drying

If you have experienced any flooding in your home, then pumping, draining and mopping are just the beginning of the water removal process to prevent mold, decay, buckling and other water damage.

Structural drying is often needed to prevent further water damage.

When properly done, structural drying demands state-of-the-art equipment and procedures to remove all excess moisture, no matter how extensively it’s traveled.

The first step towards restoration is water extraction, draining, mopping, and drying. Damp items such as clothes, furniture, and other unsalvageable building materials can be disposed of.

AIR MOVEMENT

Structural Drying is all about promoting evaporation, so that means lots of air movement to take away all the water moisture that will soon fill the air. We use powerful high-volume axial fans and centrifugal air movers to get the job done right.

This is a non-invasive procedure to properly dry the structure without altering the building. Sometimes it’s necessary to remove baseboard and crown molding and make a series of small holes to dry structural framing quickly. After these adjustments are made, blowers designed with high air pressure fans then send in dryer air, forcing moist air out. When dry, the holes are later covered by replacing the baseboard and molding. In some extreme cases, it may be necessary to remove flooring, wallboards, and even ceiling materials.

DEHUMIDIFICATION

To draw water moisture out from deep within the structure, indoor relative humidity needs to be kept low. Failing to control humidity may lead to mold and other problems in areas that weren’t harmed by the flooding.

Restoration companies use industrial high-volume refrigerant dehumidifiers specifically designed for water damage mitigation. They work by condensing water vapor out of the air by the gallon. Smaller areas make use of silica gel desiccants that can be used instead of the high-volume dehumidifiers.

Measurements and adjustments are taken frequently and are critical in keeping everything moving as rapidly as possible, as well determining there’s negligible excess moisture left to remove. It is also possible to dry the building too quickly resulting in damaged hardwood floors and other woodwork.

The moisture content, as well as measuring indoor air humidity of various building materials should be measured as well. Sometimes, thermal imaging is used to spot damp cooler areas, as well as borescopes to peer inside building cavities, which can provide helpful information.

We can provide structural dying for any type of dwelling, no matter what the flood size.
